The 6 Stresses of Health

Emotions

The word “emotion” actually means energy in motion.  Thus, all of our thoughts and ideas can be best described as feelings that produces energy, whether it be good or bad, happy or sad.  Remember what it feels like to win a contest, experience the birth of a child, get a good grade on a test, have a first kiss?  These are all examples that bring you emotional joy and make us physically feel strong, empowering, and on top of the world.   Now think about the loss of a pet, getting fired from your job, the loss of a loved one, or an argument with a friend or spouse.  These are all examples that bring you emotional heartache, sorrow, or anger and make our body feel physically weak and tired.  Thus, our emotional thoughts and feelings affect our physical health.

When we are emotionally stressed, our muscles tighten up, our gut wrenches, our heart rate increases, our breathing becomes shallow, we get ulcers, so on and so forth.  These are examples that show us that how we deal with emotional stress produces a direct correlation with what happens to our body and how it functions.

Our brain is like a giant computer.  Through all of our daily activities, interactions with people, and emotions we express, our nervous system is making files of these events and expressions and storing them in our “hard drive”or brain.  Routine events that seem not to impact us too much occur and these remain in our CONSCIOUS mind.  They will eventually get discarded into the recycle bin or waste can so our brain can continue processing more information.  Traumatic, stressful, and negative events however, can stay with us and they may not be discarded into the recycle bin or waste can .  They may get stored into our “hard drive” or our SUBCONSCIOUS mind. Think of these items as computer files that are infected with a virus.  If viruses are left in your hard drive and go unnoticed, over time, they can wear your computer down until the point that your computer can no longer function properly.  Just because you may not see a virus on the monitor does not mean that it is not destroying your computer’s hard drive. The same scenario occurs within our brain and body. Over time, if these negative thoughts, traumatic events and unhappy feelings go suppressed in our SUBCONSCIOUS mind, or hard drive, they will continue to build and build until the point that they shut our body down.  By this time, it’s too late! Our body has let us know that something is wrong. We become  sick, get ulcers, headaches, neck and back pain, diarrhea, constipation, etc. This can even lead to more serious conditions such as immune disorders, digestive disorders (ulcerative colitis, chron’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome) cancer, diabetes, and much more.

Expression of optimal health can not truly be achieved until these harmful patterns of emotion are recognized and dealt with properly.
