Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a drug-less profession that recognizes the body is a self-healing organism.  Chiropractic is a science, philosophy and art that recognizes the Nervous System (which is comprised of your brain, spinal cord, and nerves that come off the spinal cord called spinal nerves), is the chief integrating system of your body.

Your nervous system, as important as it is, needs to be protected, and thus is protected by your spinal column. Your spinal column is comprised of your skull (which protects the brain), 7 cervical vertebrae in the neck, 12 thoracic vertebrae in the mid back, 5 lumbar vertebrae in the low back, 2 ili bones of your hips, and 1 triangle bone that connects your hips, called the sacrum. These vertebrae surround your brain and spinal cord to protect them from injury. In between every vertebrae, a nerve exits off the spinal cord, called a spinal nerve, that branches off into smaller nerves connecting it to the organs, muscles, and cells of your body.

Your brain sends out billions of messages to the rest of your organs, muscles, and cells via the spinal cord and spinal nerves telling them when to function, how long to function, and when not to function.

If one of the vertebrae in your spinal column is out of alignment, this malpositioned vertebra will interrupt or interfere with the message that is being sent down from the brain to where it needs to go.  This out of alignment vertebra, which is interfering with the nervous system performing it’s job, is called a SUBLUXATION by chiropractors.  Subluxations will not allow your nervous system to work properly which creates NERVE INTERFERENCE.  If your nervous system isn’t working properly, it isn’t able to communicate to the rest of your body and your body functions at levels less than it’s optimal potential.  Over time, this does not allow your body to function at 100% and creates stress, making it work harder.  As your body has to work harder, this creates DIS-EASE.  Dis-ease continually occurring over time will create diseases or body systems breaking down which result in you feeling pain or having some sort of sign or symptom.  Pain and signs or symptoms are characteristics of your body telling you that something is not working properly or is too stressed.

Chiropractors are trained licensed doctors who identify misalignments in your spine, or subluxations, that are causing your body to perform at less than it’s optimal potential.  When a chiropractor locates a misalignment or subluxation in your spine, he will gently place the vertebra back into it’s proper position which is called an ADJUSTMENT.

An ADJUSTMENT is the process by which the doctor repositions your vertebra back into it’s proper alignment.

After the chiropractor gives you an adjustment, your nervous system can then work properly again by communicating with your brain and the rest of your body.  Once this communication is restored, your body can resume functioning at it’s optimal level and your body will have the capability to heal itself.
